MEATOUT 2013 SPEAKERS

 
Afya Ibomu is a Holistic Nutritionist, Author, the CEO of NATTRAL.com, and has been a vegetarian since 1990. Her third book the Vegan Soul Food Guide to the Galaxy, was nominated for an African American Literary Award for cookbook of the year. Afya is certified in Holistic Health and holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition. She is also the author of the Get Your Crochet On! pattern book series, that have sold over 20,000 copies. Afya is a celebrity nutritionist and crochet designer working with hip hop artists such as Erykah Badu, Common, Dead Prez and Talib Kweli. Afya currently lives in Atlanta with her husband, stic.man of dead prez and their eleven year-old son Itwela.

Jayshri Chasmawala, D.O., is a Board Certified Family Practice physician with Pure Health Family Practice in the Dallas Lakewood community. She strives to provide good quality healthcare at an affordable price in a warm, compassionate environment. She uses a holistic approach focusing on preventative medicine and educating patients on health as well as smart lifestyle choices. She emphasizes the crucial role nutrition plays in health.
Dr. Chasmawala's educational background includes a 2002 Doctor of Osteopathy from the University of North Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 2004 she received her Masters in Public Health from UNT's School of Public Health where her research focused on eating disorders. She completed her residency at Houston's Christus St. Joseph Family Practice Residency Program in 2005. Her dual educational background, continuing medical education endeavors and interest in weight management complement her goal to properly address her patients' needs of all ages. She is fluent in Spanish, Hindi, and Gujarati. Dr. Chasmawala follows a vegetarian lifestyle.


 
Raginee Edwards has her Masters of Science degree in health education from Baylor University. She has worked in the healthcare and fitness industry for nearly 10 years. She has been mostly vegetarian for the same number of years and has more recently switched over to an entirely plant-based diet. She is currently a personal fitness chef and healthy lifestyle consultant with Sanare Life Inc.



 
Nikki Hawwah is a personal vegan chef and the owner of The Luminous Kitchen. Hawwah is a Holistic Educator and Energy Practitioner-Guide. She is also an accomplished dancer. Hawwah's mission is to inspire and guide families and individuals into natural rejuvenation. The Luminous Kitchen offers weekly prepared meals for mail order/pick-up, box, and catering. Meals include raw (live), some cooked, vegan, fresh, and alkaline. Hawwah's live vegan recipes are healthy, Southern, Caribbean, and African inspired.



Jeanette Prasifka is owner of Crosby Catering & Coffee.  Jeanette is also an Executive Chef. Chef Jeanette, a vegetarian for over 30 years, has mastered the craft of preparing high quality, plant based dishes. Her culinary creations delight and impress everyone who experiences her cooking, especially those who are accustomed to a traditional meat-centric diet.



 
Angela Collier earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Foods and Nutrition with a minor in health, from the University of Houston (Texas). She currently works for Allstate as a Nutrition and Movement Coach where she is honored to travel the country conducting a workshop called Energy for Life to Allstate employees to help them have the energy to live their life the way they want. She also holds the following certifications: National Association of Sports Medicine Personal Training, American College of Sports Medicine Personal Trainer, American Fitness and Aerobic Association Group Exercise and a variety of other fitness certifications. Angela has created and directed fitness ministries such as Faith Fitness at Friendship West Baptist Church in Dallas. Her passion includes educating and motivating her clients to a well-rounded life - mind, body, and spirit. Angela’s passion for healthy living comes from her own personal battles with obesity. “My mission is simple. It is to improve the quality of life of as many people as possible through an holistic wellness approach.”




Monisha I. Randolph is Founder of Runner’s Revelations. Monisha is a RRCA Certified Distance Running Coach specializing in running clinics and training programs for beginner runners. Alexandria Williams is a Dallas native and a graduate of the Episcopal School of Dallas (class of 2002). She graduated from Texas Tech University with 2 Bachelor degrees in 2007. Alexandria has also received a certification of Sports Nutrition in 2012.
By day, Alexandria is a Media Relations Manager where she is a go-to resource for travel media worldwide. By night and Blackberry, she is the Co-Founder of Sporty Afros, along with Whitney Patterson. Alexandria has completed 5 triathlons and countless other endurance events such as duathlons and other races. Her photo, quotes and stories have been featured on the USAT Magazine, The Examiner, WFAA, Fox Sports, Essence and the CW33 to name a few. In addition, Alexandria is a featured speaker at workshops, seminars and expos discussing the essentials of nutrition with hair growth, triathlon training and tips on workout hair care regiments.




Ethan Dussault is the Director of The Humane League's new Dallas office, coordinating all work in the DFW Metroplex, while sometimes reaching Austin and Houston. He began advocating for animals as a volunteer in Boston, MA and now resides in Lake Highlands, East Dallas.

Jamion is a student of the International Sports Science Association, an organization that certifies personal trainers. He trains clients in aerobic and anaerobic exercises. He also develops appropriate health plans focusing on individual needs.  Jamion has maintained a positive, fit muscle mass, while enjoying a vegetarian lifestyle. Consequently, his purpose is to bring awareness about the benefits of a plant-based diet on physical activity and well being. Jamion works to positively shape the attitudes of individuals by educating and drawing clients into a guided active lifestyle, making their dreams of optimal health a reality.
